3 simple home systems to transform your life

In our fast-paced and modern world, creating a haven of ease and simplicity at home can work wonders for our overall wellbeing. By implementing straightforward systems, we can streamline our daily routines, reduce stress, and cultivate a sense of calm within our living spaces. (Not sure what systems are, have a read of this previous blog post).

Here are three simple systems that can be easily integrated into your home to bring in more ease and simplicity to your life.

  • Decluttering and organising

A cluttered and disorganised home can lead to feelings of chaos and overwhelm. To foster ease and simplicity, the first step is decluttering and organising your living spaces. I’m a massive advocate of decluttering, and I also aim to ‘reset’ each room every evening before bed. Our environment is super important!

I’ve got a system now for my decluttering; my approach is little and often. I’ve got a bag that lives in the cupboard under the stairs and I fill this as I declutter across the month, and then when the bag is full I drop it off at the hospice donation point.

Read more here about how I declutter for autumn.

  • Establishing a morning routine

A well thought-out morning routine can really set you up for the day. My ideal morning has me wake before my kids, and I grab a cup of tea from the kitchen before retreating back to bed with my book and my journal. I cherish this me-time. Read more about my morning ritual here.

Have a think about the routines or rituals that will support your future vision and core values.

  • Meal planning

Consider what stresses you out the most, and think about where the majority of your time goes… these are likely good places to start when it comes to implementing systems in the home. If you waste a lot of time each day deciding what to eat for dinner, then perhaps meal planning would be an appropriate next step. I typically create a weekly meal plan, but I’ve been trialling creating a plan for the month… and then making any slight tweaks when I’m doing my weekly planning.

Have a think about your workflow too, for example, you might finalise your menu on a Sunday evening and have an online supermarket order booked for the Monday afternoon (which will typically have a cut-off for changes on the Sunday night, after your meal planning exercise).

If funds allow it, and cooking doesn’t light you up (just me?!), perhaps meal prep is something that you might outsource. There’s a company near to me, Prep 2 Plate, that create some fantastic dishes that you can have delivered to your door.

Embracing ease and simplicity in our homes can significantly impact our overall wellbeing and productivity.

By incorporating these three systems into your home, you'll find that you have more time for the things that really matter.
